I made a special trip to central Kansas to photograph a very special person and her family. In March Emily found out that she has stage four colon cancer. Upon hearing the news, I immediately felt lead to capture some wonderful images of Emily with her beautiful family. What to expect:
At MBTB you will get a mix of hands-on shooting with professional models and lessons on lighting, camera settings, and post processing your images in Photoshop and Lightroom. MBTB is a workshop designed for any photographer that is shooting with a DSLR. This workshop will educate the amatuer photographer on how to shoot in Manual Mode as well as showing advanced lighting and post-production techniques for the professional photographer.

We will start off with a brief overview of camera settings and quickly work our way into understanding lighting and capturing that stellar shot no matter your location. The second half of the workshop will allow you to apply what you have learned and expand your portfolio as we break into groups and shoot gorgeous models around the Convention Center. We will end with showing you how to take those shots and apply basic Photoshop and Lightroom techniques to make them super stellar images. It will be an afternoon of shooting and learning with Kevin Keith, John Jordan and Joe Devine. It will be a ROCKIN' TIME! Look forward to seeing you there!

What to bring: * = recommended

- DSLR (remember to bring a memory card and charge your batteries the night before)
- Lenses (any lens will work but the faster (f2.8) the lens the better)

Have you ever seen a photo and said "Wow, what a great picture"? Sometimes it takes some work to make it look that way. We did a family portrait and of course, the best image of the family has houses in the background. From my experience as a photographer, houses are not normally good backgrounds. For this particular photo, we were limited on places to photograph so we worked with what we had. A storm was on its way and time was not on our side. In the end, I think the final wall Portrait will look great over the clients fireplace.

I can not believe Jackson is 6 months old already! He is growing so fast and is very healthy. He is a calm baby and smiles at the drop of a hat. We hardly ever hear him cry. The good Lord has truly blessed our hearts with Jackson. He is a gift from God.

'BEYOND Photoshop' Workshop

We just finished the 'BEYOND Photoshop' Workshop and met some great people. We also got to reconnect with some of the people from our 'Beyond The Basics' Photography Workshop. It was great to see them again. Kevin Keith and myself hosted the workshop to give back to the community some of what has been taught to us. This was our second workshop and their are plans to do more. Photography is the worlds largest hobby and besides that, it is a lot of fun!

Lexi : Another year older

Lexi is one more year older. She turned three on April 27, 2008. Lexi is our tabby cat and before our son Jackson was a replacement for kids. Now that Jackson is getting all the attention, Lexi is trying to figure out who is this new little person taking some of my love. Lexi is very independent and half the time has an attitude problem. She gets along with my wife and myself but that is about it. If you are in her space and she does not like it, she will let you know. Happy Birthday Lexi. May you have many more. It is hard to believe our son Jackson is already 5 weeks old. We could not have asked for a better baby. He is very healthy. He has already grown 3 inches and gained 2 pounds from when we brought him home from the hospital. It won't be long and we will be chasing him around the house.

Isabella is a very happy baby and was great to photograph. She has the biggest blue eyes. Jackson's First Lava Lamp

A few days after we got home from the hospital with Jackson, we got a package in the mail for Jackson from his Great Uncle Jim. It was a green and blue lava lamp. It is awesome. We have come to love the lava lamp over the last few years and every time we see one we think of Jim and Carla. You see, Jim and Carla gave us a lava lamp for a wedding gift. We thought, what are we ever going to do with a lava lamp. I didn't want it, my wife didn't want it so it went back to the store with the 6 extra crock pots we also got as wedding gifts. We then used the store credit to buy Christmas lights that we could actually use. A few years later Jim asked us "what did you ever do with the lava lamp we gave you". We don't believe in lying so we just had to tell him we took it back. He took it well and joking about it every time we see him has brought us closer. We give Jim a lot of trouble but we love him very much. Thanks Jim for the cool gift. We promise we will not take this one back to the store.

Jackson goes to the Doctors Office

Today Jackson went to the Doctors office for the first time. Jackson does not like to have his clothes off as you can tell by his weigh in. As soon as you bundle him back up he is a happy baby again. Dr. Lance Slaymaker with Village Pediatrics, LLC is Jackson's Doctor. Dr. Slaymaker visited Jackson in the hospital and is exceptional with children. He has been wonderful with Jackson and works with a great group of Doctors. He also takes time to answer all of our new parent questions.

It has been a very busy weekend. Our neighborhood just got two new residents. Their is a couple in our neighborhood that from the day we moved in have been great to us. Their names are Lonnie and Janice. They are so good to us that they call us their children. Lonnie and Janice have a son, Brian, our age and he was expecting his first child, their first grandchild, about the same time as us. We were both delivering at Shawnee Mission Medical Center and we said wouldn't it be cool if we were in the hospital at the same time. As luck would have it, we were. Brian's son Brayden was born March 28th at 12:24 pm and we had our son Jackson March 29th at 1:37am. Congratulation Lonnie and Janice on two grandchildren.

After such great feedback from the 'Beyond The Basics' Photography Workshop and hearing everyone's desire for a Photoshop one we decided to continue the excitement. So, the BEYOND Tour continues with a NEW workshop. We are now introducing the 'BEYOND Photoshop' Workshop that will be held on Sunday, May 4th in Kansas City (Overland Park). This will be a one-day five hour workshop to teach you everything you need to know in Photoshop in order to turn your good photos into AMAZING PHOTOS in just minutes! We will be working with adjustment layers, curves, actions and many other useful Photoshop tools. There will also be a small introduction into Adobe Lightroom. Lightroom uses a lot of the same tools as Photoshop but makes it easy to process a large amount of photos in a short period of time. Seniors are so much fun to photograph. I assisted Lori Hill with this senior session. Lori and I met at our Beyond The Basics photography workshop. At the end of the workshop Lori told me she was photographing Jill, a Senior at Notre Dame de Sion and I offered to help her with the session. Lori is an up and coming photographer and has an eye for great images. Jill was a great sport and we all had a good time. We wish Jill well and hope she has a memorable senior year.

What a great workshop! Kevin Keith, Larry Perez and myself hosted the workshop. This was our first workshop and we had a wonderful time getting to know 8 local photographers. It is amazing how much talent is out there. I can't wait to meet up with them again. We spent two days going beyond the little green program button on the camera. It was a true hands on workshop.
